Student Leadership

Marryatville Primary School values the importance of students building their sense of meaning, purpose, and belonging for positive wellbeing. Our leadership opportunities are one way we support students in gaining exposure to valuable experiences that foster this. Some of these leadership opportunities include our school captains, SRC, and sports captains.

School Captains

MPS school captains undertake an application and selection process to gain this position in their final year of primary school. Our captains are responsible for various roles around the school, such as supporting school tours through providing a student’s insight into what makes MPS a great place to learn and thrive, assisting community members during special events, and liaising with and supporting school leadership on initiatives and improvements around the school.

SRC

Our Student Representative Council (SRC) is made up of selected students from each class in our year 1-6 levels. These students conduct regular meetings, providing a space to raise issues and concerns, share news and information about initiatives or changes around the school, make decisions about how and where SRC fundraising is spent, and organise special events. Our senior year 6 representatives (SRC executives) are responsible for running and minuting each meeting, as well as leading our twice-termly whole school assemblies.

Sports Captains

Sports captain and vice-captain positions are another opportunity for student leadership at MPS. Year 6 students, in their final year of primary school, have the opportunity to apply for these positions and are voted for by the Year 3-6 students in each of our four house teams (Hindmarsh, Light, Sturt, and Flinders). These students assist with the organisation and running of our whole school sports events, such as the swimming carnival and sports day.
